A. Objectives

To improve their effectiveness in applying ICT tools in learning;
To equip students to use ICT tools and resources effectively in problem-solving, as well as to analyze, process and present information;
To develop the ability to verify the accuracy and reliability of information;
To cultivate positive attitudes towards widespread utilisation of ICT;
To reinforce students’ awareness of behaving ethically and protecting themselves when getting access to information and communicating through the Internet;
To develop an inquisitive mind and an interest in learning new ICT tools and techniques independently; and

F. School-based assessment for the HKDSE ICT

Aims and Objectives

The primary rationale for SBA in ICT is to enhance the validity of the assessment by including the whole range of dimensions of learning in the curriculum: knowledge and understanding, generic skills and practical skills.

For the SBA of ICT, students are required to complete two guided tasks, with teacher guidance. The context of the guided tasks is related to both the Compulsory Part and the Elective Part.

SBA Requirements

The SBA component consists of two guided tasks, which comprises 20% of the subject mark.

The guided tasks focus on ‘Design & Implementation’ and ‘Testing & Evaluation’ in the development of an information system:

Task 1: Design & Implementation (25 marks)

Task 2: Testing & Evaluation (15 marks)

Students are required to complete Task 1 in S5 and Task 2 in S6.

Life-wide Learning Experience

AI-5000 Project Workshop

On January 13, 2026, the AI-5000 Project Workshop provided all Form 2 girls with the opportunity to explore how Artificial Intelligence can make learning more accessible. Jointly organized by the EdTech company Preface and the local charity Melo Foundation, the workshop was designed to utilize various AI-powered tools to transform abstract concepts into tangible prototypes. Girls developed Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) and created prototypes using AI tools, culminating in presentations that emphasized storytelling and responsible AI use. It is essential to empower our girls with versatile skills to embrace an evolving future, which is one of the school's major concerns.

It was our distinct pleasure to have the Honorable Bernard Charnwut CHAN, GBM, GBS, JP, as our guest speaker. St. Marians had the valuable opportunity to engage in a dialogue with Mr. Chan regarding his personal journey and the impact of AI on his professional field. Mr. Chan’s extensive experience and leadership in various sectors, including his role as Chairman of the M+ Museum and Our Hong Kong Foundation, make him an exceptional source of inspiration and knowledge.

Special thanks to Mrs. Eva Chan, one of our remarkable alumni, whose instrumental role in connecting St. Mary’s with Preface and the Melo Foundation provided this wonderful opportunity for our girls.

Meeting with Financial Services and Treasury Bureau (FSTB) and Hong Kong Blockchain Society (HKBCS)

Our girls Ice Chow and Chloe Tam from 2A were invited to join a meeting with the Financial Services and Treasury Bureau (FSTB) and the Hong Kong Blockchain Society (HKBCS) in the afternoon of 5th November, 2021 at the Financial Services Development Council.

The speakers, Mr. Joseph H. L. Chan, JP, Under Secretary for FSTB and Mr. Gabriel Chan, Secretary General of HKBCS, shared with students the latest blockchain developments in Hong Kong and the adoption of technology in finance and the treasury. In the meeting, our girls were invited to introduce their blockchain application prototype and the professionals shared their valuable advice in terms of business and technical aspects.
