Ø Medical certificates are required if students are absent from assessments like the short tests, organized tests and exams etc; otherwise, 0 marks will be given.
Ø If a student is absent from organized tests and exams with justified reasons, her assessment weighting will be adjusted.
Ø If the exam is cancelled due to uncertainties e.g. class suspension, the weighting of term marks and organized tests will become more significant.
Ø The assessment plans are subject to change due to some uncertainties e.g. suspension of face-to-face lessons.

Objectives and Assessment Requirements
School-based Assessment (SBA) is an essential, integrated component of the HKDSE Physics curriculum, focusing on students' practical performances during F.5 and F.6. SBA allows teachers to provide feedback that consolidates scientific concepts and investigative skills. Students perform practical tasks—such as designing experiments and interpreting results—and may conduct an investigative study to solve authentic problems. This process fosters core generic skills, including critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. SBA ensures that practical and reporting skills are developed and assessed naturally within the daily teaching and learning environment. The assessment mode involves direct observation and the marking of students' work, including worksheets, short reports, and long reports.
Criteria and Timeline
A 20-point scale will be used for the assessment of SBA tasks. Assessment criteria include the handling of apparatus, demonstrating a full understanding of the objectives and procedures of the experiments, interpreting results, maintaining a complete record of data with good presentation skills, drawing appropriate conclusions, ensuring laboratory safety, and providing accurate interpretations of results for general experiments.
Following HKEAA requirements (Table 2.4.2), the quality of a student’s work is to be judged by matching their performance against the following mark scale:
|
Marks |
Quality of work |
|
20 − 17 |
Excellent |
|
16 − 12 |
Good |
|
11 − 6 |
Fair |
|
5 − 1 |
Poor |
Following HKEAA requirements (Table 2.1.1), the implementation timeline is:
Form 5: A minimum of one assessment (6% weighting), typically conducted during the second term of the year.
Form 6: A minimum of two assessments (6% and 8% weighting respectively), conducted between September and December.
Over these two years, students must complete at least four experimental (EXPT) assessments for mark submission.
